This is a special necklace that features Mauritanian African trade beads.
Mauritanian beads are a type of powder glass beads handmade in the town of KIffa. The beads are made with crushed glass moistened with siliva and formed around a core without a mold. Firing on a bed of charcoal. Each bead is individually hand decorated. These beads are rare and new ones have been made in the region beginning in the 80’s using the technique. The making of these beads requires considerable skill.
